7 million tourists visited Egypt during the first half of 2023

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Ahmed Issa announced that Egypt welcomed about 7 million visitors in the year's first six months.

The tourism industry in Egypt, one of the primary sources of income for the country, has been recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine. The minister of tourism and antiquities, Ahmed Issa, said on Monday that Egypt hosted around 7 million tourists in the first half of this year, breaking a record in April with 1.35 million visitors. He praised the private sector and the relevant authorities for their efforts and cooperation in achieving Egypt’s tourism goals.

Issa also said that Egypt saw a 46.2 percent increase in tourist arrivals in 2022, reaching 11.7 million, compared to eight million in 2021. He added that the country aims to attract tourism investments worth EGP 7.4 billion in the fiscal year 2022/2023, up from EGP 6.2 billion in the previous year.

The government has taken several steps to stimulate the sector, such as allowing tourists from 180 countries to get visas on arrival and easing visa requirements for visitors from China, Iran, India, Turkey, Morocco, and Algeria. In September, it also launched an online platform to regulate yacht trips to Egypt, capitalizing on its strategic location and long coastlines.
