The season for medical tourism in Safaga has started.

Medical tourists from Europe are flocking to the hotels and resorts of Safaga, a city on the Red Sea, as the city offers various natural treatments for different diseases.The medical tourism season, which starts in April every year, boosts the occupancy rates of these hotels, based on confirmed bookings.

The mayor of Safaga, Yasser Shaaban, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the city’s beaches are attracting medical tourists who benefit from the sunny weather, warm water, and black sand that are rich in natural minerals. He said that the hotels also provide sand burial facilities on the beach, with medical staff and equipment. According to published scientific studies, the water of Safaga has a high salinity level, which reaches more than 55 parts per million of salts and minerals that help cure many chronic diseases. The beach of Safaga also contains gold salts, due to the heavy salts that come from the rainwater that flows from the mountains around the bay.

These mountains have rocks that contain gold salts and other elements that mix with the rainwater and settle in the sea mud. Patients bathe in this water and then expose their skin to ultraviolet rays in the early morning and before sunset.

The Ministry of Tourism selected some locations to launch the medical tourism project in 2019, including the Red Sea for its chemical composition and coral reefs that help treat psoriasis, Egypt has 16 natural treatment sites, both inland and coastal, such as Helwan, Ain Assera, Ain Sokhna, Hurghada, Fayoum, Siwa Oasis, Aswan, Sinai, and Safaga on the Red Sea.

Egypt also has many sulfuric and mineral springs that have unique chemical properties that sometimes surpass those of other springs in the world in terms of depth and capacity.

Egypt offers 16 natural treatment sites, both inland and coastal, for various diseases. These include Helwan, Ain Assera, Ain Sokhna, Hurghada, Fayoum, Siwa Oasis, Aswan, Sinai, and Safaga on the Red Sea.
