Direct flights between Tehran and Cairo in 45 days

Egypt, Direct flights between Tehran and Cairo could start in 45 days, according to the Iranian semi-official news agency Tasnim as reported by Al Arabiya.

According to Tasnim, Iran and Egypt have been discussing the possibility of resuming tourism between them, with the help of Iraq as a mediator. The news agency said an Egyptian tourism ministry delegation will soon visit Tehran to follow up on the talks.

The news comes as Cairo and Tehran have recently shown signs of rapprochement after decades of severed ties since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

In late May, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that his country is open to restoring relations with Egypt.

Egypt also eased visa rules for Iranian tourists in April, allowing them to get a visa on arrival if they want to visit South Sinai.

In March, Egypt welcomed the Saudi-Iranian agreement to restore diplomatic relations, calling it an “important step” to ease regional tensions.

Egypt also hoped that Tehran would “adopt a policy that respects the legitimate concerns of the countries in the region.”
